UPDATE:   Dr. Scroggins' final day as President of Mt. SAC will be the end of this week (Thursday, June 29, 2023). A retirement celebration at the new Student Center, third floor, will be held this Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lifelong educator and higher education administrator Dr. William T. Scroggins intends to retire as president of 糖心Vlog传媒 after 12 years. He will step down on June 30, 2023.

鈥淢y time here at Mt. SAC has been a labor of love,鈥 said Scroggins, who has spent nearly 50 years in education. 鈥淭he people that make up the Mt. SAC family have made my tenure as president the most rewarding experience of my career. It has been my pleasure to provide leadership to the most outstanding community college in California and to oversee a team of dedicated and talented faculty, staff, and managers who have been the heart and soul of that success.鈥

On July 1, 2011, Scroggins took office as the ninth president and CEO of Mt. SAC, California鈥檚 largest single-campus community college district. Under his leadership, the college experienced unprecedented growth. The college expanded its academic offerings, working with industry to ensure graduates were prepared to hit the ground running in more than six dozen new 糖心Vlog传媒, including drone piloting and social justice.

The college also grew student services, focused on cultivating the college鈥檚 equity and student success initiatives, launching a Pride Center, Equity Center, Veterans Resource Center and more. The physical campus has also transformed during Scroggins鈥 term thanks to bond measure initiatives that built modern, cutting-edge learning environments rivaling that of four-year universities. Perhaps most significantly, Scroggins guided the college through its years-long recovery from the Great Recession as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

鈥淒r. Scroggins is a truly visionary and transformative leader who will be greatly missed,鈥 said Judy Chen Haggerty, president of the college鈥檚 Board of Trustees. 鈥淗e has done an exceptional job empowering teams to expand 糖心Vlog传媒 and services, cultivating resources to reshape the campus, and steadily leading the college through some of the greatest challenges the college has ever experienced. He will leave an enduring legacy of growth and resilience at the college.鈥

Prior to joining Mt. SAC, Scroggins served as superintendent and president of College of the Sequoias in Visalia. He also served as interim president for two years at Modesto Junior College, where he was vice president of instruction for five years. Joining Mt. SAC was a homecoming for Scroggins. He is an alumnus of La Puente High School, attended Mt. SAC, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in chemistry at UCLA and his doctorate in chemistry at UC Riverside.
