"

Writing and reading made my life seem less lonely and connected me to a larger world that seemed distant and frightening. Writing and reading allowed me to see that I wasn't alone and that the fears and anxieties of my youth did not have to define me; that in fact, other people had gone through this before me.

The teachers who inspired me were all passionate about what they did, and this passion was infectious. As a first generation Latinx college student who is now a professor, I want to be like those teachers and inspire students to do their best, to work for their goals, and to achieve what may seem as out of reach.
